Uber Cleanup fee

Over the weekend some friends and I went to the beach and one of my friends got some sand on the driver's seat. I get we should've put a towel down or something but I didnt realize realize my friend had sand on her pants until we got out of the car. When I saw the sand I asked the driver if he wanted me to clean the seat which would have involved simply wiping it down (we had wipes in the house). The driver declined but later I see a $40 fee which involves "moderate damage to car exterior". When I contacted Uber they were less than helpful and it's really frustrating when I specifically asked the driver if I could clean up the mess. At this point just want to initiate a chargeback which I know will involve Uber banning my account. I live in a large city where I rarely use Uber's services in favour of public transit. My city also has Lyft so that's an option if I ever use Uber. Their treatment of customers is unacceptable to me so I'd rather be done with them. Has anyone has similar experiences and what was the outcome?
