Apple and Google attribute the resignation to the increasing rivalry between the Silicon Valley behemoths. Experts, however, the resignation has its roots in the Trade commission’s investigations. They claim that the resignation would pre-empt a long drawn scrutiny by the commission.

Charles Golvin, principal analyst with Forrester Research said, “Google is interested in making sure that any scrutiny it may be getting from the regulator's perspective is as diminished as possible.""

Eric Schmidt / Official Google Blog: - We've officially acquired DoubleClick

Eric Schmidt / Official Google Blog: - We've officially acquired DoubleClick
Excerpt:
"I'm pleased to share the news that we completed our acquisition of DoubleClick today. Although it's been nearly a year since we announced our intention to acquire DoubleClick last April, we are no less excited today about the benefits that the combination of our two companies will bring to the online advertising market.

Because we have been waiting for regulatory approval for our acquisition, we've been limited by law in the extent to which we could conduct detailed integration planning to map our way forward. That work will begin in earnest now. Although we don’t have detailed plans to announce today, we will communicate regularly with you about our progress in integrating our two companies."

Eric Schmidt launches Google Health
Excerpt:
"During a news conference after the keynote speech, Schmidt said that if the government tries to subpoena Google for the consumer records, the company would have to comply, but he hinted in answering a follow-up question that patients could circumvent that by deleting their records.

"We are subject to U.S. law. In the case where we are forced by court to turn over information, we would do it," he said. "If the information were not there, it would be (hard) to subpoena it," he added."

Google’s Eric Schmidt Won’t Talk About The iPhone At Apple Board Meetings

Google’s Eric Schmidt Won’t Talk About The iPhone At Apple Board Meetings
Excerpt:
"One is the startling fact that because of Google’s increasing interest in the mobile phone industry (it is bidding for wireless spectrum and has created Android, a new open-source, mobile operating system), CEO Eric Schmidt, who also sits on Apple’s board of directors:

. . . now recuses himself from mobile-phone discussions at Apple board meetings.

Excuse me? I guess that’s commendable. Schmidt knows he has a conflict of interest there. But what good is a board member who cannot talk about a company’s hottest product? The iPhone only represents Apple’s biggest growth opportunity. If Schmidt won’t talk about the iPhone in board meetings with Steve Jobs because he’s gunning for the same market with Android, maybe he shouldn’t be on Apple’s board at all."
