I haven't used any of the VR systems currently on the market, and I haven't even used a gaming console since the 80s. I've been a "PC only" gamer for a very long time.What I'm wondering is:How is the third party software distributed? Does each system (ie. Occulus) have its own app store, and more importantly, is it possible to bypass that store and get apps directly from developers? (If I develop an app, can I give it out without going through a curation process? I'm thinking about non-game apps.)If I supress my disdain for Facebook and buy an Occulus X, do I need a Facebook account to use it? To develop for it?Does steam work with all the headsets?I'd like to buy one soon to try it out. While I'll probably only play a few games (Alyx, Beatsabre), I'm also interested in tinkering with interface development and maybe start making some simple apps. Are the dev kits for the different system all comparable?
