Can someone help explain what its like to use a VR headset?

I have a order for the 999$ Valve Index, I was wondering what its like.. my 8 week wait is coming to the end so I'm expecting a "ready to ship" from Steam soon.I understand that its the same graphics as in a computer but do you REALLY feel like you're in the world or does it just feel like you're surrounded by a computer screen?
