Today I installed SteamVR on my new PC. Should I bother with manual adjustments like supersampling or just let Steam take care of it?

I just built my first new PC since the OG Vive came out this afternoon. With that being said, I haven't installed Steam or Steam VR since the Vive's launch day. Back then there were performance advantages if you manually tweaked Steam VR settings like super sampling. Is that still the case now, or will the adaptive quality settings just optimize it on its own?
