Facebook notifications will be the death of me! 80 notifications vanish once logging in!

Before logging into my account, it says that I have 80 notifications but when I log in, there are none. I have tried emptying the cache to both android phone and Macbook. I clicked the down arrow and clicked on all the old notifications that were still darker color. I watched a bunch of friends' stories. I went through "Explore." This started maybe a week or two ago and the number keeps increasing with no logical method, as far as I can tell, to get rid of it all.https://ift.tt/3c4HTCB
