My boyfriend ordered an Uber to a spot a few miles away from us. When we were picked up, the driver did the whole name confirmation thing, and my boyfriend said “yess sir that’s me!” Now, my boyfriend’s name is Alexis, and a lot of Uber drivers assume that I’m Alexis and not him, so we’re pretty used to this. The driver said “No, shes Alexis” (pointing to me) I told the driver that’s not my name, and it’s my boyfriends, thinking he was just trying to joke around with us like most drivers do once my boyfriend confirms that the ride is for Alexis. The driver INSISTED that we were lying, and this was my Uber account. I told him “it’s not, but it’s okay and we understand why you’d think that”
The driver said that it was a pool ride, and for only me, “alexis”. He said my boyfriend needed to get out of the car. My boyfriend tried to show him his phone, because it was not a pool ride, just a regular Uber ride. The driver refused to listen or look at our app, and continued arguing that my boyfriend shouldn’t in the car. We were only a few blocks from our house, and I asked him to just end the ride for us or pull over and let us cancel the ride so we can order another Uber. Driver REFUSED, Locked the doors, and kept driving towards our location. We asked him a few more times to pull over and let us out, but he kept refusing while arguing that I should be riding alone. We finally reached our location, and he continued arguing with me and my boyfriend about how my boyfriend shouldn’t have been in the car. My boyfriend threw a water bottle at the car once he let us out, and the driver got out his car then got back in and sped away and I felt so creeped out by this whole thing. My boyfriend thinks that the driver only picks up female passengers and was annoyed that my boyfriend was in the car and that’s why he insisted that the ride was just for me. It was just so weird. Is that a possibility?? I’ve had a few strange Uber drivers, but never one who wouldn’t pull over or let us end the ride. I’m still so confused about the drivers behavior.
