Microsoft refusing refund for broken code

Hey folks. I'm a little pissed right now because of how I was completely blown off. So here's what happened. I wanted to buy Minecraft for a friend that lives in the US, and I'm in Canada. There was no warning that it would be region locked. They took the payment, and sent her the code to redeem and download the game. When she tried to download it, she found out it's region locked, as seen here.

I called Microsoft customer support; they told me they couldn't issue refunds over the phone and sent me to an xbox refund request webpage, even though it was a PC purchase. So I tried that, they sent me an email saying they received my request. The next email they sent was no explanation or anything, it just said they've closed my support request, without saying why or in fact saying anything about the refund and why I may or may not be eligible. As you can see here that's all I got from them.

The payment did go through. My friend received the irredeemable code. They took the payment from paypal, which in turn took the money from my bank account, as shown here and here You can also see no refund has been issued.

I'm sorry for the long post, but I don't know what else to do. They sold me a code that can't be redeemed and are just flat out refusing to even communicate with me about a refund. Any advice? Thanks.
